Hello Everyone!

Well, here we are in February…a time when many people begin to plan and book their summer vacations. It is also really nice to think about escaping to a warmer clime when all you see is ice and snow out the windows!!

Hopefully the information found on my website will help you in planning all of the details that go into a wonderful Disney World trip. A great place to start is the Disney Vacation Plan Step by Step Guide. Have fun!

If you are a new subscriber to the Scoop and have some extra time, you can catch up on old issues.

Before getting to this month’s news and discounts, here’s a quick update on the Disney planning spreadsheet files. Since posting the files in a new location on an external web host, they have now been downloaded almost 5000 times!

As always, if you have any feedback or questions, please send me a note.

Okay, on with the news!

UPDATE: Online Check-in for 2009

Last month I reported that the online check-in would begin in January. Well – it’s been delayed and should start sometime in February – let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Here are the details:

Starting in FEBRUARY 2009, guests staying at select Disney resorts will be able to check-in online up to 10 days prior to arrival.

To use the online process, you will be asked to provide a credit card (if you wish to use one for room charge privileges), your address, a phone number where you can be reached during your stay (like a cell phone), your travel information (such as arrival and departure times), and the names of all guests and any room requests you may need.

As always, standard check-in times remain in effect – you can request an early check-in but there is no guarantee that your room will be ready.

This is normal, we just checked-in at 8:00 am a few weeks ago but our room was still not available until 3:00 pm. (Although it was definitely worth the wait because we were surprised with an upgrade to a theme park view!! When you arrive, you will need to find the online check-in area. After showing a valid photo ID, you will be given your welcome folder containing all of your Disney World information and room keys.

Utilizing the online check-in will speed up the whole process when you get there – allowing you to start enjoying your vacation a little sooner!

Space Mountain Refurbishment

Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom will close for an extended refurbishment period beginning April 19th, 2009. It is expected to reopen in late 2009. No specific opening date has been published. Also, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority or TTA (or the Blue Cars as my kids call them) will also close periodically to accommodate the renovation / construction.

No more 180 day ADRs

Many of you probably already know, but for those who don’t, you can no longer make Advanced Dining Reservations 180 days ahead of time. The window has gone back down to 90 days. Guests staying at a Disney resort will be able to make reservations for their whole vacation (up to 10 days) at the 90 day point.

Discounted Tickets

If you are not using a Disney vacation package, you can either purchase your park tickets directly from Disney at the gate, or you can get discounted Disney World tickets from an outside vendor.

These vendors buy tickets in bulk and pass the savings on to you – the consumer! I recommend buying your Disney tickets or tickets for other Orlando attractions from Maple Leaf Tickets.

They offer competitive pricing paired with over twenty years of industry experience. They’ll even deliver your tickets to your resort hotel or directly to your home before your vacation!

Give the Gift of Disney Stock

I’ve always heard about the deal where you can give (or get!) a share of Disney Stock as a gift. I just thought I would pass along the idea to all of you. Now is a great time to buy stock – considering the state of the markets today. So, check it out. You can even buy a Framed Share of Walt Disney Stock
through the My First Stock Program – that would make a really unique gift for a baby shower or a graduation, or even a birthday or Valentine’s Day!

Find the Cheapest Airfare

If you are looking to find the best price you have got to check out If you have ever booked your own airfare, you know what a pain it is to manually check all the different airlines for the best deal. Kayak is a travel tool that searches 140+ travel sites all at once and finds the cheapest fares for you – for flights, hotels, and even rental cars. After you get all of the results for your desired travel dates, you can then compare the results from all of the sites together – and there are many ways to filter and sort the results – all done instantly! Hotels searches are also offered, so check it out if you are planning to stay offsite in an Orlando area hotel. You can even buy direct from the airlines or agencies - Kayak is not a travel agent. And of course, Kayak is free!

Tip of the Month

Future World after 7:00 pm!

This month’s tip comes directly from one of your fellow “Scoopers”! Thanks to Jill for this great tip.

”When getting most kids meals in Walt Disney World you receive their meals in a black "Mickey plate" with sections. We wiped these out with napkins in the parks, and kept them! We gave some to friends & still have some in our house we use 8 months later!”

Be sure to visit the Tips Section for more great tips!
