The Contemporary Resort is one of the two original Disney World Resorts. The modern architecture and enormous A-frame structure are quite stunning and impressive. And nothing can compare to the sleek monorail that runs right through the hotel’s Grand Canyon Concourse. Paired with outstanding views of the Magic Kingdom and the Seven Seas Lagoon, the Contemporary truly is a beautiful, modern resort with convenient access to all that Disney World has to offer.

The Contemporary is one of the Magic Kingdom Resorts. It is conveniently located on the Resort Monorail Loop. This monorail runs in a clockwise circle, stopping at the Magic Kingdom Park, Contemporary, Transportation and Ticket Center, Polynesian Resort, and the Grand Floridian Resort. A connecting monorail takes you from the TTC to Epcot.

Disney World Contemporary Resort Wall Mural The monorail station is located on the fourth floor concourse of the main Tower building. This Grand Canyon Concourse is where the action is. Here you will find many shops and restaurants, and every so often you'll hear the muted whoosh of the monorail passing overhead. It really is one of the neatest experiences – especially for the kids. Be sure to check out the famous mosaic wall mural.

The Contemporary is considered a Disney Deluxe Resort. This means that you will enjoy all the benefits of staying at a Disney Resort, including Extra Magic Hours, Disney’s Magical Express, the option to have a Disney Dining Plan, and more. Call 407-W-DISNEY to make reservations.

Watching the Electrical Water Pageant
As a guest, you will also be treated to a nightly viewing of the Electrical Water Pageant. You can watch this from the Bay Lake side of the resort. On our first trip to the Contemporary, my kids stood at the patio door in their pajamas every night – very cute!

Our-Disney-Brick Guess what? You can also walk from the Contemporary directly to the Magic Kingdom! How cool is that? The first time I took this walk it was really quite strange. I was so used to arriving at the Magic Kingdom like cattle on one of the Disney buses. What an absolute treat to be able to roll the stroller right out of my hotel room and into the Magic Kingdom. The walk itself is quite nice and only takes about 5 or 10 minutes.

If you do walk, be sure to look down because the walkway is lined with Disney's Walk Around the World bricks. We purchased a brick while on our honeymoon and we love to visit it. Kind of makes us feel like we own a little bit of Disney! Sadly, these bricks are no longer available for purchase.

Transportation to and from the Contemporary Resort
  • Monorail - to the Magic Kingdom, TTC, Polynesian, Grand Floridian and Epcot
  • Boat – to the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness
  • Bus – to MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Water Parks and Downtown Disney

There are numerous recreation options at the Contemporary Resort. You can rent watermice, sailboats, or pontoon boats on Bay Lake. The main pool has a large waterslide, a Jacuzzi, and a sandy beach area. Let me tell you, my kids loved that waterslide! It wasn’t big and fancy, but it was great fun. There is also a quiet pool which may appeal more to the no-kids crowd. For the more energetic vacationer, there are beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, fishing excursions, and even a jogging trail. My husband loves to check out all the jogging trails while we are on vacation, while I tend to treat them as walking paths!
