Disney World Magic Kingdom
The Disney World Magic Kingdom really is the happiest place on earth! If you’ve ever been there I am sure you will agree. How can you not smile in a place where everything is geared toward your happiness? From the moment you enter onto Main Street USA, your sensory functions are totally engaged. You are bombarded with the sights, the sounds, the smells, and the nostalgic feelings of past Disney trips and childhood memories!
The Magic Kingdom is the place where classic Disney lives. Yes, this is where you will find all the great attractions, stories and characters. But you will also discover the heart of Disney. You know what I mean, that overwhelming emotional feeling – the feeling of Disney. It’s the same feeling you get when watching your son make a great play in a game, or when you watch a broadway show. Those people are doing what they do FOR you and because they love doing it. It’s the same thing with Disney. Walt Disney and his Imagineers poured their hearts into creating this place just for us.
My family always likes to begin and end our Disney vacations by visiting the Magic Kingdom. Being there at the beginning of your trip really gets you in the Disney mood. Everyone feels like a kid and easily leaves all the worries and commitments of home life behind! At the end of the trip, we like to return to the Magic Kingdom as a way to say goodbye until next time. The kids revisit their favorite attractions and we do all of our shopping along Main Street. While the entire Disney World Resort is great, great fun, the Magic Kingdom will always be our favorite, our home away from home!
Let’s explore the Disney World Magic Kingdom!
Getting to and from Disney’s Magic Kingdom is almost an attraction in itself. There are many transportation modes available, including buses, monorails, ferry boats, water launches and trams. Be sure to know the location of the pickup/drop off point for whichever mode you choose. My boys love the thrill of riding the monorail and boats, but are just as entertained by the novelty of riding the Disney buses since that is not something they do at home!
The Disney World Magic Kingdom is divided into seven themed areas arranged in a circular, clock-like layout centered around Cinderella Castle. You enter the park at the six o’clock position, and are immediately immersed in Main Street, USA. Going in a clockwise direction, the remaining themed areas are Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Mickey’s Toontown Fair, and Tomorrowland.
Be sure to stop at Guest Relations at City Hall on Main Street to pick up Park Maps and Showtime Schedules. You can also make ticket upgrades, dining reservations, find out where you can meet the characters, or pick up Disney Dollars or Birthday Buttons. The Cast Members at Guest Relations can pretty much help with any questions or concerns you may have. This is also the location of the Lost and Found. You can find Magic Kingdom tips, show times and even attraction wait times at the Guest Information Board near Casey’s Corner Restaurant at the end of Main Street.

The Disney World Magic Kingdom is open daily throughout the year. Park Hours vary by season and sometimes depend on Magic Kingdom Special Events. The Magic Kingdom also has Extra Magic Hours. This is when the park opens early or remains open late on certain days during the week. Guests staying at one of the Disney Resorts can take advantage of these extra hours.
Parades and fireworks displays are a big part of a day at the Disney World Magic Kingdom. There is a daytime parade and also SpectroMagic, the dazzling evening light parade. The Wishes Nighttime Spectacular is a fireworks show set to classic Disney music and narrated by Jiminy Cricket. Be sure to find out the times and stake out your seats on the curb early! You don’t want to miss these classic Disney moments.
Disney World Magic Kingdom dining offers something for everyone. There are five sit-down Table Service restaurants (ADRs strongly recommended), many Counter Service locations, and a plethora of places to grab a snack or a quick bite. Character Dining is also available at certain meals and restaurants.
